Background

I was born in Vietnam and came to the United States in the 1980s as one of the “boat people.” My life has been shaped by resilience, responsibility, and a deep commitment to serving others. As the oldest of eight children, I learned early how to care for those around me—an experience that ultimately inspired my career in nursing.

I earned a bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture from Louisiana State University before dedicating several years to raising my three children. As my family grew, so did my desire to pursue a career in healthcare. I returned to school to become a nurse and spent nearly ten years working as a psychiatric nurse, including seven years at Clifton T. Perkins Hospital, a maximum-security forensic psychiatric institution. There, I gained extensive experience caring for individuals with complex mental health needs and developed a strong foundation in psychiatric care.

To further my education and expand my ability to serve patients, I earned my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Frostburg State University and my Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from Walden University. Today, I practice as a psychiatric nurse practitioner, providing compassionate, evidence-based, and culturally informed mental health care. I believe in treating the whole person and partnering with each patient to help them achieve lasting wellness.

I currently live in Ellicott City, Maryland, with my husband, our daughter, and our cat, Joon. Outside of work, I enjoy gardening and have a passion for growing plants with nutritional and medicinal value. I find great satisfaction in incorporating these plants into my family’s daily life to support health and well-being.

Approach

I use the biopsychosocial model to guide my practice, recognizing the importance of understanding and addressing the root causes of mental health concerns. My treatment approach is eclectic and individualized to meet each patient’s unique needs. I work collaboratively with my patients, using medication as one of many treatment tools. I also emphasize the role of nutrition, lifestyle modifications, and evidence-based therapeutic modalities to support lasting mental health and overall well-being.
